Lawn Mowers

Robot Mower Buying Guide

Everything you need to know before buying an autonomous mower — from boundary wires to GPS navigation.

Robot mowers are the lowest-effort way to keep a lawn trimmed. They work a little and often, trimming tiny amounts of grass each time and mulching the clippings back into the lawn as natural fertiliser.

The most important spec is the maximum area rating. Always buy a robot mower rated for at least 20% more than your lawn area — the mower won't need to work at full capacity, which extends battery life and reduces noise.

Older robot mowers require a boundary wire buried around the lawn edge. Newer models use GPS (RTK) or vision-based navigation and need no wire at all. Wire-free models are easier to install but more expensive.

Slope handling matters if your garden is hilly. Check the maximum slope percentage — most robot mowers handle 25–30%, but some manage up to 45%.

App control lets you schedule mowing times, set zones, and monitor progress from your phone. Most modern robot mowers include it, but check before buying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. They keep grass consistently short by mowing little and often. They don't collect clippings — they mulch them back into the lawn, which is good for grass health.
