Best Lawn Mower for a Small Garden
Compact, lightweight and easy to store — what to look for when lawn space is tight.
A small garden — anything up to about 250 square metres — doesn't need a big mower. In fact, a large deck will be harder to manoeuvre and store. The best small-garden mowers are lightweight, easy to carry, and simple to stow.
Corded electric mowers are ideal for small gardens. They're light, quiet, and you're never far from a plug. Battery mowers are also excellent if you don't want a trailing cable, though you'll need to keep the battery charged.
Look for a cutting width of 30–36cm. A foldable handle is worth having if storage space is limited, and a grass box of 30–40 litres means fewer trips to the compost heap.
If your garden has awkward corners or narrow strips, a strimmer makes a perfect companion to a small mower — use the mower for the main area and the strimmer for the edges.
