Battery chainsaws have improved dramatically. Modern 18V and 56V models can handle most domestic pruning, log cutting and even light felling. They're quieter, lighter, and need far less maintenance than petrol saws.
Petrol chainsaws still rule for heavy, sustained work — felling large trees, cutting thick logs all day, or working far from a power source. They produce more power but require fuel mixing, regular servicing, and they're noisy.
If you already own batteries from a cordless platform (Ryobi ONE+, Makita LXT, EGO 56V), a compatible chainsaw is a cost-effective choice — you're only buying the bare tool.
Safety matters regardless of power type. A chain brake is essential. Low-kickback chains are strongly recommended for non-professional users. And always wear protective equipment.
